Its goal is to generate additional revenue for the School's budget, as well as expand NES beyond the markets where the School is already known as a strong player. Focusing on the needs of the market, NES Business Academy offers a wide range of training formats: from one-day intensive courses to specialized programs with a total duration of 6-8 months.

Since 2017, NES has been included in QS World University Rankings by Subject (Economics and Econometrics). In 2024, The New Economic School is included in the Top 201-250 universities in the world.
In 2018-2023, NES was included in the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (ARWU) in the field of Economics.
According to RePEc, NES is ranked the 1st in the Top 25% Institutions in Russia. The School is in the Top 12.5% institutions in Europe and Top 25% Economics Departments rankings.
According to a study by the University of San Andrés conducted in 2021, the New Economic School ranks 18th in the global list of universities whose students are admitted to PhD programs in economics at the top 20 US universities. NES is the only representative from Russia in the list.

As of today, around 3000 people have graduated from NES. About 90% of the alumni find jobs in the first three months after graduation. Traditionally, a high proportion of graduates (38%) choose to work in the financial sector, 11% work in consulting, 11% are employed in IT and e-commerce, and 3% engage in entrepreneurship, mainly in companies that are known as leaders of Russian and international financial and real sector. Around 14% of NES graduates pursue academic career at leading universities in Russia and worldwide, such as NES, HSE, Harvard University, MIT, Stanford, Yale, Columbia, University of Chicago, Princeton, University of California in Los Angeles, New York University, London School of Economics, and others. etc. Around 4% of NES graduates work in the public sector, including the Bank of Russia, Moscow Government, Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, Dom.rf, Audit Chamber, and others.

NES trains highly qualified specialists for the Russian labor market and plays an important role in the development of economic education in Russia. NES professors also teach at the Moscow State University, RANEPA, HSE, MISIS, and others.
Every year, winter and summer education schools for teachers and researchers in different Russian cities are organized. These schools support young scientists and help them to integrate into the global scientific environment.
In 2020, the New Economic School together with the European University in St. Petersburg, the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences ("Shaninka"), and the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, became a co-founder of the New League of Universities. The association aims to develop new forms of education, implement educational innovations, and conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of technical and social sciences.
